Entity types and type attributes

Overview

Starting with Newton, the following default entity types are already provided in an instance.
Master Holding – Top company of a Project
HoldCo – Holding
OpCo – Operational company
AssetCo – Company that owns Assets (financial, virtual, or physical)
Besides these, you can create your types that are also specific to your needs, for example, a
TopCo - Top company in the deal structure, below the MasterCo
Within the Entity Types, AssetCo, Master Holding, and OpCo already have active attributes.

Entity types attributes

Entity types have the following attributes by default: some of them are already activated. You can change this by editing the entity types.
To do so, in the left-hand navigation menu under Configurations, go to the Options menu.
Some of those attributes are used in dedicated areas of Newton, and it depends on your instance whether they can be used or ignored.
do_not_warn_on_project_deactivation If the status of a project is to be changed from an "active" to an "inactive" one (as per "active" attribute of the project status option), then Newton checks whether all entities related to the project are inactive as well, otherwise it prevents saving the project with the new status. However, entity statuses might be considered active (as per their own "active" attribute), but should not prevent a project from being set to inactive. This is useful if there are higher-level entities, such as Master Holdings, that exist outside of the project's life cycle but were added to the project's entity structure.
has_assets This is used to subdivide the entity types into those that can hold assets and those that cannot. When editing an asset and setting the entity type, if it is a type with the attribute "has_assets," the area for entering asset-related information is displayed; otherwise, it is not.
has_general_cash This is used in Newton’s cash balance reporting area, ...
is_top_co When viewing a project's "Entities" tab, the first sub-section, "Active Entities", shows a flat list of the entity structure. This is a simplified list, as each entity appears only once under a maximum of one shareholder entity, although in reality, that entity could have multiple shareholders. To find the correct "entry point", that is, the entity that should appear as the "root" in this list, and be considered on the top-most level, entities with an entity type having the attribute "is_top_co" are taken into consideration first. There are many more rules for setting up that list, so an entity with type "is_top_co" does not always appear as the root; it appears somewhere on a lower level, for example, in cases where it has shareholders itself.
background_icon Once this is defined, the appropriate icon will appear in the entity chart for entity boxes with this entity type. One of the following versions will also offer a more convenient way to select the icons.
